My journey with music began when I first started playing piano at the age of seven. However, it was when I was 12 years old that my fascination with woodwinds blossomed, leading me to the beautiful sound of the oboe. I embraced the instrument wholeheartedly and soon found myself immersed in the rich environment of a youth orchestra.
Throughout my high school years, the oboe became not just an instrument but a conduit for self-expression and artistic exploration. I had known I wanted to pursue music from an early age, so it only seemed natural to pursue the oboe at the collegiate level, aspiring to delve deeper into the intricacies of this unique instrument and continue my journey as a oboist and musician.
I went on to earn my Bachelor of Music from California State University, Northridge in 2022 and a Master of Music from San Diego State University in 2024, both in oboe performance.
My knowledge of musical performance and experience with woodwinds during my studies allows me to push the boundaries of my craft in teaching style and while playing.
A great reed is essential for an oboist to express themselves fully. In the delicate artistry of oboe reed making, a balance of craftsmanship and intuition produces a rich and resonant tone.
At the heart of my reed making philosophy, I believe that making reeds is both a technical skill and an art. I maintain a commitment to prioritize response, intonation, depth and ease of playing.
My lifelong quest is to one day create the "perfect reed."
